Ric Sanders group

jazz, folk, blues, original tunes, improv.

Ric and I have played together since we had hair - and that’s a very long time. The trio with Greg was a natural extension. Greg & Ric had been in the Albion Band together in its hey-day (or should I say Shepherd’s Hey-Day.’)

Intuition has been the name of the game since we started. We seem to have the ability to start a tune, segue into something else completely unplanned, improvise on it and make a return journey or not whilst still keeping the audience with us.

It’s a very wide repertoire: jazz standards like La Fiesta, Birdland and that kind kind of thing, then older material by Duke Ellington and other composers of the Great American Songbook.

We love doing our own take on modern composers - for example a Vaughan-Williams piece into a Paul McCartney or George Harrison Tune. It really is a ‘no boundaries’ unit. There’ll usually be a few of our own tunes in the set as well.

Of course Ric’s probably best known for his work with the best folk-rock band of them all - Fairport Convention. This is great for us as it gives us a higher profile than we otherwise enjoy.

Our two albums have been very well received - the first was recorded live in Lincoln Cathedral with Rick Wakeman guesting on a gorgeous version of ‘Little Wing.’ The second was completely improvised with the help of the wonderful Anjali Dance Company.
